Yesterday I was on NHK World’s program, Tokyo Eye. I took the film crew to some of my favorite shops in Shimokitazawa (hippie town in Tokyo) for some discount shopping. I wrote about this a little while ago, but my goal for this year was to make it on Japanese TV. I don’t know why. Every year I make these over-reaching New Years goals like “make better friends” or “get more self-confidence” or “find a more productive hobby.” These goals are great, don’t get me wrong, but the first time Ryosuke found me sprawled out on the floor writing my New Year’s resolutions (right after we got engaged) he just laughed. “How do you measure those goals?” “Um. You don’t. It’s like a personal thing.” “So why don’t you pick a goal you can actually accomplish, like you know, for real?” He asked. So I did. This year, my New Year’s goal was to make it on Japanese television. And I accomplished that goal back in March, when I flew into Tokyo and ended up on the national TV show YOUは何しに日本へ (Because Ryosuke is ridiculous and showed up at the airport with a huge bouquet of flowers and a yellow bow-tie [...]
