Ryosuke and I have plants… and we jokingly refer to our plants as our children, saying stuff like “I’m going to go water our children,” or “I’m going to go kill our children (like picking basil or cilantro for dinner).” It’s fine when it’s just us… But every once and a while we have company over for dinner and sort of forget that both of us are serious weirdos. One of our Japanese friends came over for dinner last week, and Ryosuke was just like “I’m going to go kill some of our children.” She just stared at him like he was a monster, until I explained our children were actually our “pet” herbs. She still looked a bit creeped out – but probably just because she realized how weird Ryosuke and I are.
