Last summer, Ryosuke and I climbed Mt. Fuji with his dad and a whole troupe of police officers (Ryosuke’s dad is a semi-retired police chief/official). It was Ryosuke’s dad’s 16th time climbing Mt. Fuji (Why? I have no idea. I tried asking) and our first time. It was horrifically crowded, difficult, and exhausting. But it was also rewarding. Of course, I spent the entire time complaining (I’m really great at complaining, what can I say? You got to monopolize on your strengths!)… but I really did have a great time. That being said, there is no way I’m climbing it again this year (sorry otousan). Funny story: I drink a lot of water. At the base of the mountain, the guide was like “you should probably bring 1-2 liters per person.” Ryosuke and I packed 6.5 liters (since it’s an overnight hike). The guide was like “leave a couple bottles in the car, there is no way you will drink all of that.” We totally drank 6.3 liters (and drank the remaining .2 liters on the bus ride back to the station).
