I was in Tokyo yesterday and had a bit of free time between when my gig ended and when I was going to meet up with one of my friends. So I did some people-watching down in Shinjuku. I was astonished to see the number of tourists (and even helped a nice European couple find their train line)… living out in the countryside made me forget how ethnically diverse Tokyo is (at least in comparison to the countryside). I also thought it was kind of funny how you could easily tell if someone was a tourist or a resident – whether they were checking out the surroundings or buried in their smartphones.
