She writes: Upon arriving in Tokyo for my first (ever!) job, back in 2011, I had no intention of jumping into a serious relationship. About 5 months previously I had been unceremoniously dumped by my Japanese boyfriend of 3 years, apparently due to my lack of interest in creating offspring. Although in retrospect this was a good thing, at the time it hurt like hell. Fortunately, by the time I stepped off the plane I was once again feeling open to dating, and was intent on having fun, going on a lot of dates, meeting tons of people, perhaps going just a little wild. After 3 years of long distance, I felt I deserved to be giant flirt! And for a while I was. I signed up for a couple dating sites, and met an interesting dude from Osaka, followed by a few unremarkable coffee dates.
