Comic: Are you a part of that Foreigner’s family? (no)

To be fair, it was a kind of honest mistake. In Ryosuke’s graduating class at Akita International University, there was one white guy from Switzerland. Everyone else was Asian, so that guy stuck out (probably as much as I stuck out) – and I was sitting in the family section with Ryosuke’s mom. While I was just hanging out near the stage, an older Japanese lady walked up to me, trying to make conversation (which was sweet). She asked how long I had been in Japan and if I was a member of the foreigner’s family. When I told he I was married to one of the Japanese students, she kind of got confused. And stuff. It reminded me of our wedding – two people went up to one of our family friends (a Korean woman married to a white, American guy) and asked if she was Ryosuke’s mom, how long had she been in America, and her English was amazing! I thought Grace said Ryosuke’s mother couldn’t speak English? She was a great sport about it – Ryosuke lovingly refers to her as his “Korean mommie” still.
