I’m joking. Really, my Japanese isn’t that bad. I try to call Ryosuke’s parents once a week to chat (or just send them a letter, which I prefer because it’s a lot less confrontational and awkward). However, Ryosuke’s parents are old folks (ish), so they speak in a more classical Japanese and use big words I don’t really understand. Stick me in a room with a bunch of middle school boys and I can talk circles around them. Or at least understand everything they’re saying. But put me in the Japanese equivalent of a retirement home, and I’m completely lost. I am horrible at honorific speech, big words, and formal situations. Ryosuke thinks it’s hilarious when I try to talk to his parents on the phone, since I get lost really easy. Spousal support at its finest. PS – If you like this, I’m publishing my own comic book (On kickstarter) titled, “My Japanese Husband Thinks I’m Crazy!” full of all sorts of comics like this~
