Last week, Ryosuke and I were in a video with the vloggers “Rachel and Jun” – where we talked about the 4 odd things about being married to Japanese men. Of course, I wanted to write a whole post about it (and I will), but for now, I thought this comic would suffice. In Japan, feet are pretty taboo. Things like walking around barefoot and running through the grass without shoes are a huge “no-no.” When Ryosuke and I first started dating, he was very adamant about me cleaning off my feet with wet wipes before bed. It was… odd. And kind of offensive. I’m used to it now. I mean, my feet do get pretty dirty on a daily basis – and since I often choose to shower in the morning (rather than night), wiping my feet off before bed keeps the sheets cleaner. So, Ryosuke wins this round, I guess. For anyone wondering, the 4 odd things about being married to Japanese men are: 1. The obsession with clean feet 2. Not talking to friends/family about the relationship. 3. Accidentally awkward English phrases, like “What’s wrong with you?” (instead of asking “what’s wrong?” when your partner is crying) [...]
