Ryosuke and I went on a fun day trip to the city of Kawagoe in Saitama, Japan and while we were there, I got the chance to try on a beautiful blue kimono from one of the many rental shops. Kawagoe is affectionately known as “Littel Edo” (or “Coedo”) because to this day, part of the city still looks almost exactly like it did in the Edo Period (1603 – 1867). It’s one of the few places in Japan where you can really see what cities used to look like, centuries ago. The main street in coedo is lined with Kurazuki (black, clay-walled buildings), giving it a dark and dramatic landscape.
