Ryosuke and I have both had some… interesting experiences working for traditional Japanese companies. Of course, our experience isn’t universal – there are plenty of great companies that value their employees time and emotional well-being. The issue we keep coming across, though, is fudged working hours (especially unpaid overtime). We met up for drinks with a bunch of my friends from college (when I studied abroad in Japan) recently and everyone was hashing out work horror stories over their fourth round of beer.
